Candidates with the qualification of LLB/LLM/M.Sc is eligible to apply for the jobs. There are 285 vacancies available for the posts. In 1923 the Indian Government established a Public Service Commission. It is a department of the government of Tamil Nadu. It is responsible for governing the recruitment of personnel into the state’s public service. All the recruitments conducted by this commission are purely merit-based.

Educational Qualification(01 June 2023):
Civil Judge:
- For Practising Advocates/ Pleaders and Assistant Public Prosecutors:
- Must possess a Degree in Law from a University in India established or incorporated by or under a Central Act or a State Act, or an Institution recognised by the University Grants The commission or any other equivalent qualification and got enrolled in the Bar Council of Tamil Nadu or in the Bar Council of any other State in India and
- Must be practising as an Advocate or Pleader in any Court on the date of Notification for recruitment to the post and must have so practised for a period of not less than 3 years on such date. (or)
- Must be an Assistant Public Prosecutor having not less than 3 years of experience as an Advocate and/or Assistant Public Prosecutor
- For Fresh Law Graduates:
- Must be a fresh Law Graduate possessing a degree in Law from a recognized University, as mentioned in Clause-I
- Must be eligible to be enrolled as an Advocate.
- Must have secured an overall percentage of marks in acquiring the Bachelor’s Degree in Law as below:-
- 45% Marks in case of Reserved Categories (i.e. SCs, SC(A)s, STs, MBCs/DCs, BCs(OBCMs) and BCMs).
- 50% Marks in case of Open Category (i.e. Others).
- Must have obtained the Bachelor’s Degree in Law within a period of three years prior to the date of Notification.
Training: Every person appointed to the category of Civil Judge by direct recruitment shall undergo training for a minimum period of twelve months as may be prescribed by the High Court of Madras.
Age Limit( As on 01 July 2023):
- For Practising Advocates/ Pleaders and Assistant Public Prosecutors:
- For SCs, SC(A)s, STs, MBCs/DCs, BCs, BCMs and Destitute Widows of all castes 25 – 42 Years
- Others 25- 37 Years
- For Fresh Law Graduates: For all Categories 22 – 29 Years
Age Relaxation: Persons with Disabilities are eligible for age concession upto 10 years over and above the maximum age limit prescribed.
Salary: Rs. 27,700 – 770 – 33,090 – 920 – 40,450 – 1080 – 44,770 + Allowances, as admissible under the Rules.

Selection Process:
- The selection process comprises three successive stages, viz.,
- Preliminary Examination
- Main Examination;
- Viva–Voce Test.
- Preliminary Examination(Objective Type/OMR):
- The Preliminary Examination will consist of one paper containing 100 multiple-choice questions for 3 hrs.
- The papers will be set both in English and Tamil, and each question shall carry one mark, and 0.10 marks will be deducted for each incorrect answer.
- The minimum qualifying marks SCs, SC(A)s and STs are 30 marks BC(OBCM)s, BC(M)s are 35 marks and MBCs/DCs, Others 40 marks
- Main Examination:
- Translation Paper: 100 marks for 3 hrs
- Law Paper – I: 100 marks for 3 hrs
- Law Paper – II: 100 marks for 3 hrs
- Law Paper –III: 100 marks for 3 hrs
- The minimum qualifying marks SCs, SC(A)s and STs are 30% BC(OBCM)s, BC(M)s are 35 % and MBCs/DCs, Others 40%.
- Viva-Voce Test: The viva-voce test shall be for sixty (60) marks, and candidates of all categories shall obtain a minimum of 18 marks for a pass in the Viva- Voce.
- Selection of candidates shall be made on the basis of Total Marks obtained by the candidates in the Main Examination and Viva-Voce Test.
Note: Every person appointed to the category of Civil Judge by direct recruitment shall pass the Account Test for Executive officers within the probation period.

Educational Qualification:
Assistant Geologist in the Groundwater wing of the Water Resources Department: Master of Science degree in Geology, Master of Science degree in Applied Geology, or Master of Science (Technology) in Hydrogeology of any University recognized by the University Grants Commission.
Assistant Geologist in Geology and Mining Department:
- Must possess an M.Sc., degree in Geology from any University.
- Other things being equal preference will be given to Candidates who possess practical experience in fieldwork.
Age Limit ( As on 01 July 2023 ):
- For SCs, SC(A)s, STs, MBCs/DCs, BC(OBCM)s, BCMs, and Destitute Widows of all categories and Ex-Servicemen: Minimum age – 18 years & Maximum no age limit.
- Others: Minimum age – 18 years & Maximum age – 32 years.
Age Relaxation :
For Persons with Benchmark Disability:

Selection Process:
- Selection will be made in two successive stages i.e., (i) Written Examination and (ii) Oral Test in the form of an interview.
- Final selection will be made on the basis of total marks obtained by the candidates in the Written Examination and Oral Test taken together subject to the rule of reservation of appointment.
- Candidate’s appearance in both the papers of the Written Examination and in the Oral Test is compulsory.
- A candidate who has not appeared in any one of the papers in the Written Examination or Oral Test will not be considered for selection, even if he/she secures qualifying marks in the Written Examination or Oral Test.
- Based on the marks obtained by the candidates in the Written Examination, the tentative list of eligible candidates for Certificate Verification will be announced on the Commission’s website.
- After verification of the original certificates, the eligible candidates will be summoned for Oral tests following the rule of reservation of appointment.
